Professional Development Program

The Professional Development Program aims to prepare students for the world of work. The programs being run in 2024 include:  

  • Industry Insights Networking Events
  • Professional Skills Workshops

The Professional Development Program (or “PDP”) is run in conjunction with Student Life, Archie Craig the Alumni Secretary (a member of the House Committee) and Hannah Atwell, the Director of Advancement.  

Semester 1, 2024 – Networking Events

  • Commerce/Business – Monday 29 April from 7pm-8.30pm (Erickson Room)
  • Medicine/Allied Health (Medicine/Vet/Physiotherapy/Psychology) – Monday 29 April from 7pm-8.30pm (Senior Common Room)
  • Law – Monday 6 May from 7pm-8.30pm (Erickson Room)
  • Engineering – Monday 6 May from 7pm-8.30pm (Senior Common Room)

There will be up to 4 industry-specific Networking Events per semester. Further events details and registration links will be advertised by the Alumni Sec via Facebook.

 

Semester 1, 2024 – Skills Workshops 

  • LinkedIn Basics – Tuesday 19 March, 5pm-6pm in the Erickson Room
    Run by LinkedIn Aficionados – Georgie Beer &  Archie Craig with professional HR insights from our Director of Business Bonnie Dixon. This is a short’n’snappy workshop to help you get going with your LinkedIn. Georgie & Archie will teach you all the ways to leverage your Drews experiences to maximise your employability for internships and jobs. Set up an account beforehand and bring your laptop along for an interactive session!

  • Networking 101 – Wednesday 17 April, 4.45pm-6pm in the Erickson Room
    Please join Directors Hannah Atwell (Advancement) and Alice Draffin (Student Life) for this practical workshop, where we will share with you some tips and tricks about how to become more confident at such an event, how to follow up with people you have met afterwards, and how to hold food, drinks and a conversation at the same time. We will provide a few drinks and nibbles, so you can put into practice what you have just learned.

  • Start Ups Seminars & Androvation Senior Scholars Project – Semester 1 short course
    Sam Aubin, 4th year alum and winner of the INCUBATE Award for Best Student Startup at Sydney University, is running a weekly program in which our students have the opportunity to learn about the world of startups. For more information, please contact Sam directly.
